Itinerary

As your flight descends into Paro, enjoy sweeping views of the Himalayan range, including Bhutan’s sacred peaks like Jumolhari and Jichu Drake. On a clear day, travelers flying in from Kathmandu may even spot Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga. Upon arrival, our representative will greet you at the airport. After check-in and refreshments, explore Paro Dzong, a fortress-monastery built in 1646 that now houses government offices and monastic institutions. Visit the Ta Dzong, formerly a watchtower, now home to Bhutan’s National Museum with an impressive collection of art and artifacts. Conclude the day with a visit to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan. Enjoy a relaxed evening stroll through Paro town. Overnight in Paro.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic hike to Taktsang Monastery, Bhutan’s most iconic landmark. Perched on a sheer cliff 900 meters above the valley, the monastery is believed to be the meditation site of Guru Rinpoche, who arrived on the back of a tigress in the 8th century. The uphill hike takes about 2 hours. After visiting Taktsang, drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a fortress rich in history and recently reconstructed. If the weather is favorable, you may catch views of Mount Jomolhari in the background. Spend the rest of the day exploring more of Paro’s cultural sites. Overnight in Paro.

Trekking distance: 7 km | Duration: 4-5 hours | Altitude: 3,480 mYour trek begins with a gradual climb through blue pine forests. If skies are clear, panoramic views of Paro Valley and surrounding snow-clad peaks unfold. The trail leads to Jele La Pass (3,400m) and Jele Dzong, a small fortress atop the ridge. Overnight at campsite near Jele Dzong.

Trekking distance: 10 km | Duration: 4-5 hours | Altitude: 3,770 mContinue along a ridge through lush rhododendron forests. If the weather is favorable, catch glimpses of Mount Chomolhari and other majestic peaks. Along the way, you may hear monal pheasants and see yak herder camps. Overnight at campsite.

Trekking distance: 10 km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Altitude: 3,870 mTrek along high ridges with sweeping views of valleys and distant mountains. The path leads to Jimilangtsho, a pristine alpine lake famous for its large trout. Camp beside the lake under a starlit sky. Overnight at campsite.

Trekking distance: 10 km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Altitude: 3,870 mToday’s route winds through dwarf rhododendron forests and past another scenic lake, Janeetsho. You’ll encounter yak herder camps and experience the nomadic lifestyle. Camp by the tranquil Simkotra Lake. If lucky, enjoy a freshly caught trout dinner. Overnight at campsite.

Trekking distance: 14 km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Ascent: 100 m | Descent: 1,800 mAscend gradually to Phume La Pass (4,080m), with panoramic views of Bhutan’s highest mountain, Gangkar Puensum, and other Himalayan peaks. Descend through forests to Phajoding Monastery, then continue downhill to Thimphu, passing serene pine forests. Your driver will receive you at the trail’s end and transfer you to the hotel. Enjoy an evening stroll in Thimphu town. Overnight in Thimphu.

Explore Thimphu’s highlights starting with the National Memorial Chorten, a spiritual landmark. Visit Changangkha Temple (12th century), Drubthob Monastery and Zilukha Nunnery, and the National Library. Tour the Institute for Zorig Chusum (School of Arts & Crafts) and the Folk Heritage Museum. In the late afternoon, drive back to Paro. Overnight in Paro.

It’s considered a moderate trek. No technical climbing is required, but some days involve steep ascents and hiking at altitudes over 4,000 meters (13,000+ feet).

Basic fitness and stamina are important. While no technical skills are needed, the altitude and continuous walking for 5–6 days require a moderate fitness level.

Yes. Independent trekking is not allowed in Bhutan. All trekkers must book through a registered Bhutanese tour operator, which includes a licensed guide, cook, porters, permits, and camping gear.

The trek is fully camping-based. Tents, sleeping bags, and all meals are provided by the Travel Finder Tours.
